Not a common practice

I'm a newspaper publisher with a tourist magazine, and I can assure you it is not common practice to service the newsstands first and let the subscribers run out. Sail Magazine has for many years had the worst circulation department of any American periodical I've encountered or heard of. They typically would bill you two or three times a year and then not fulfill. This is unethical and illegal but impossible to enforce. This entire thread should be sent to Sail management for their response.

me neither!

I called them, and they immediately offered to extend my subscription a month-but when I asked about the missing issue, they insisted that it had been mailed-then, I mentioned all the "missing" issues I'd heard about online, and they said only 2 people had reported missing issues, so everything is fine with their system.makes you wonder if anyone is watching the henhouse....

They told me...

that mine had been mailed out as well. I said I did not recieve it. They were more than happy to extend my subscription. I told him I wasn't buying his saying it got sent out and told him about this thread. He then told me that they had a truck full of magazines crash in an ice storm and that a lot did not get delivered but they don't know what ones. Don't know is this is true or not but that what he said. Rob Morton S/V Euphoria

Henhouse? I think there is more than one henhouse

I believe there are several people in charge of subscriptions and it doesn't sound like any of them are communicating. The fact that me emailing a subscription wouldn't get me the same deal as through the website made me scratch my head. I'm sure there are different deals if you call into the subscription number. I'm wondering what I got myself into. I like the Good Old Boat mag, but that's quite a bit of dough for a subscription.

Ah, so the delivery truck went over the cliff in a snowstorm...? Sounds similar to "...the dog ate my homework..."

Sail/Sell Magazine

Hmmm, I too haven't received the Jan. or Feb. issues. Maybe they should change the name from "Sail Magazine" to "Sell Magazine". $$$$$ all important. Customer service, once they have your money, not important.

I did not get Feb. either

This string prompted me to check my library. I too did not get February of Sail or Boatworks. I subscribed to both as a package at the St. Pete Strictly Sail show. I left them a note on the subscriber service part of the website. I will let you all know tonight what their solution is. Thanks, Ross in Tampa 1979 Oday 25 "Lola"

Maybe they had two truck loads of Sail go over the cliff in a snowstorm,I wonder if it was the same cliff,I hope it wasn't the same driver,I hope he is ok, March is coming.

I did not get my Jan or Feb either, now I'm P!$$&d

You know, an offer that is too good to be true... is just that, too good to be true. I knew that, but signed up anyway. Two years starting last Oct. They sent me a beat up Oct issue, then a Nov. that was ok, then a Dec., then nothing since. I emailed and they said they would extend my issues to Oct.2008. At this rate, and from what I am reading.. I might kiss that 10 bucks good bye! Hum, wonder if I can still do a charge back on my credit card? We need to mount a protest! happy sailing... David

Add me to the list...

no Feb issue here either. The reply email I got said they no longer have any in stock, and they will extend my subscription by a month. The multiple requests to renew (starting 7 months before expiration!) have no trouble reaching me though. I really enjoy my Lats and Atts subscription - maybe it's time to cut back to 1 sailing magazine...

so what do we as a group do about non-receipt?

looks like several of us are missing recent issues of "Sail." I have neither Jan or Feb. Any suggestions on what we as a group can do about this?

Very early in this thread I suggested that

a visit to the post master with a complaint was in order. At this point I think that there is a basis for a class action suit.

Sail Issues

I have not received the February issue of Sail either. Since December I have had several issues with Sail. Their frequent renewal notices are a PIA, and I even had to fight with them over an "automatic renwal" when my subscription was only a few months old. I think when my subscription runs out, we will part ways.

Another missing issue

Another customer with a missing issue. I was given a copy of "Good Old Boat" at the Chicago show. I am going to switch to it. Seems to have more articles related to my "old boat" than "Sail" does.

I got the March issue today

Hey everyone, I got an automated response from Sail Magazine via email. They are investigating my message. But, on a happier note, I got the March issue today. I reminded me of the boat shopper. There are way too many broker listings these days. I thumbed through the issue, it's not bad, but I am not a racer, I am a weekender / cruiser. I am begining to rethink my subscription priorities. I love Boat works magazine, just only wish it was monthly. Ross in Tampa 1979 Oday 25 "Lola"

Interesting

And, I thought my missing Feb copy was a fluke. I too spoke with the subscription department (Tuesday, Feb 113th) and was told it was mailed late and I should receive it by Friday. In the next breath, the idiot said she was extending my subscription for one month. I told her a one month extention meant nothing to me, as I wanted the Feb issue. She then told me they were sold out. She spoke with forked-tongue . . . I now have my brother searching New York Magazine stands. That's probably how SAIL planned to earn more money . . . sc*ew there subs out of an issue, and cause them to pay the newstand price, perhaps.

SailMag

I didn't get my Feb issue either. I got my sail for $10. this year and $15. last. I think I got ripped off at $25 the year before. I get Boat Works too. $12. last year and $10 this year. Wish it was monthly. It's a lot better than Sail. I wouldn't have gotten Sail this year except the price was right. Oh I got a sub to Ocean Navigator for only $10 this year too. It's better than Sail too. Still paying out the nose for This Old Boat. Wish I could find a deal with that mag.

No Feb. issue

March arrived yesterday. Not sure I really care. They hounded me for months to re-up, finally relented when they offered a years sub. for $5.00. Get what you pay for. Lats & Atts and GOB are by far the best. Agree, GOB pinches a bit at $35 a year for six issues. The March issue arrived yesterday as well. Getting close to splash time so maybe I won't need to turn to a mag for a fix.

Called SAIL, at first pretended not a problem...

..they had no printing problems or issues. They offered to extend my subscription, but when I told them I wanted the Feb issue they said they didn't have anymore. They finally admitted that they have had many calls and the best they can do is extend the subscription. I told them it was very frustrating when the issues are sitting in the stores and not in my mail. oh, well...thanks to you guys I got a 2 month extension. abe
