Anchorclanker, as far as I'm concerned...

Sail magazine is just as you describe.

I have a subscription, because they made it so cheap: $21 for 3 years. So, why not? But the 2 magazine I really can't wait to arrive are Good Old Boat and Small Craft Advisor. Sometimes Sailing magazine is nice, if only because it's large format with some nice pics from time to time.

Hey, I guess my preferences make sense considering I own one boat that's 45 years old, and 2 that are about 30...

I got a subscription request for Sail in the mail, but assumed its the same 100 pages of advertizing for every single page of article all the other mags have become. I used to be an avid magazine reader/subscriber, subscribed to R&T and Flying for over 10 years starting at 14, but I got so tired of the bulk of advertizing I gave up. I havnt picked up a R&T or Flying in almost 20 years other than to briefly fan through them to see a change. Only change is MORE advertizing. I will happily apologize if Sail is different though.

My take on it...
Who loves to sail more

The guy who has the money to buy new boat, a costly slip, all the latest gizmos, who can spend weeks, months onboard in perfect comfort

Or the guy who sqeezed out a home equity loan to realize a dream, buy a 35 year old boat, retofit a trailer for it, spends every possible weekend sailing, even though it means traveling, trailering, stepping, launching, retrieving, warm beer, cold hulls and port-potti?

no catalina 22?

I tend to read and will pay more for "good old boat". Just picked up an issue of sail to check it out and may check out the aug issue. I'm guessing the market is mostly for buyers of new boats and it was not for me.
