Hi all,

My name is Lauren and I'm SAIL Magazine's Assistant Editor. For our August issue, we're writing a story about cruisers under 30 feet. We're featuring short (300-word) contributions from owners of pocket cruisers about why they love their boats, along with specs and photos of the boats and their owners.

Specifically, I'm looking for owners of the following boats:

Harbor 24, Harbor 30, TomCat 6.2, Precision 23, Com-Pac 27, and the MacGregor 26.

If you own any of these boats and you're interested in contributing, please email me at lsaal@sailmagazine.com so I can give you additional information. The deadline (including answering questions I have once you email me) is May 20.

I look forward to hearing from you!

I would hardly call a Harbor-30 or a Com-Pac-27 "pocket cruisers" Maybe it's a misunderstanding of the term "pocket cruiser"? But then again, the request was made in the "trailer sailor" section. MMmmmmmm

Well probably 'cruiser' as opposed to 'racer'. It been my experience that they try and cover a wide range of boat types in this type of article. And its also important that they are still being made. That makes it relevant to new boat buyers, and to the advertising department as well. Hmmm. Someone should tell her that MacGregor is out of the game... but maybe a tie-in to Tattoo??

Glad to see "Sail" is reading this forum. Hope the other "sail slicks" are also reading here. They may learn something about sailors like us....

Guess they don't realise the C-22 is still in 42 years of continouis production.

Harbors, made by WD Schock, are daysailors...not cruisers. Schock is a heavy advertisor in Sail. But then so is Catalina and Hunter, so why are none of their well known models that fit the profile mentioned?

in my humble opinion... (maybe a bit off topic)
almost anyone can go out and sign a piece of paper and sail away in a new boat.... and maybe thats what its all about for the magazine sales, but as for myself and what i like to read, it isnt about the new boat owner or the new boat that does it for me... I want to read about, and hang out with, cruise and learn from the guy that has an old boat that he keeps in top condition. the guy that knows how to upgrade and modify for comfort in a small space...I want to be able to do it how he does it. I want to read about his boat in the magazines..... my respect is given to pride and experience, not the dollar or the need to keep up with the jones's..... but someone has to buy the new boats, or there wouldnt be any used ones for us to buy;)

in addition, the inclusion of the macgregor 26 with all of its different variations in models, seems like kind of a black sheep among the other boats listed. the 26 models could fill an article all of their own....:D

I hear you. Every magazine has a target audience. SAIL aims more at the new boat market, and charterers. It has to do with the demographic data that they share with advertisers. Do you read Good Old Boat? Excellent. Or go to a good bookstore and grab a copy of Practical Boat Owner, its a great British magazine.

small craft advisor is what i currently subscribe to. its a great mag for the mini day sailer/pocket cruiser, but something in the 24-30ft boats hold my interest longer.. i will try to look for the other mags and see what they are about.... thanks

One could hope she already has submissions from other owners and is just trying to fill in some gaps.

The guy that could write the book on small boat cruising and modifications is a fellow whom I've not met but enjoy his blog and posts tremendously is Sumner and his very talented wife, Ruth.

I got a subscription request for Sail in the mail, but assumed its the same 100 pages of advertizing for every single page of article all the other mags have become. I used to be an avid magazine reader/subscriber, subscribed to R&T and Flying for over 10 years starting at 14, but I got so tired of the bulk of advertizing I gave up. I havnt picked up a R&T or Flying in almost 20 years other than to briefly fan through them to see a change. Only change is MORE advertizing. I will happily apologize if Sail is different though.
