Out here in the Caribe

We have been out here for 18 months and love it. No one can tell you the best choice of anything. As mentioned earlier the discussions even with those out here are constant. It is one way to learn. We chose our boat by reserach, sailing, and deciding what we wanted in a boat rather than letting the money just do the talking. The saying it costs as much or as little as you have is true from buying the boat to outfitting to cruising.

What happen to my Sunfish Post

I try to help a guy out and they zap my post? Not cool! I guess a Sunfish does not have enough room for beer. I would move up just a little bigger. How about a Catalina 22. Great boat!

Your post is still there, just click to page two. Now if I can offer a counter-point… I think that Robert ought to be getting a J-133. I’ve been thinking long and hard about this and my first consideration was a Santa Cruz 52. But then I thought, “What would Robert’s wife think of me if I stuck her in a mast head boat with a symmetrical kite? I know that my wife would kill me if I made her double hand a beast like that. Understanding Robert’s racing heritage and his desire to cross the Atlantic twice, and then possibly winding up in the Pacific by the end of the year, he is going to need a boat that can put down 200 mile days like clockwork. And unlike a Mast-head boat he can probably get by with a 150, 120, and 90 jib(s). My recommendation would be North 3DL or UK tape drive. In the spinnaker department he would by with an A2, A3 and a code zero. The first two should be socked and the third on a spinnaker furler. Navigation suite – I’m about the only person on this BB who actually likes Raymarine, so I’ll keep personal bias out of this. Go with Funaro Radar, B&G instruments and Garmin GPS. ICOM will work nicely for your VHF/SSB needs. Water maker and wind generator will also be good additions. O.K. Robert, you got what you needed, now go down
