Sail Drive Drain Screw Removed-Now What?

The drain screw for the sail drive was a pig to remove. The wide range of special oils and freeze spray were useless and it came down to a mother of a screw driver and brute force.

I will be replacing the old with a new drain screw however I'm thinking that there might be something that can be applied to the screw threads. Was thinking teflon tape or anything that you all might suggest.

Never-Seize
a little dab will do ya so don't buy the 55 gal drum.
Also painting over the plug after install helps keep water out

Oh yea
You do not need to Conan the plug when re-installing it. it does not hold the boat together! finger tight and a 1/4 turn are all that is needed.

Plumber's paste type pipe joint compound. You just need to seal the threads against water.

My mechanic mixes equal parts anti-seeze with lithium grease. He puts it on wheel studs and a dab ware ever the rim touches the disk. I have never had a hard time removing a tire.

if you tighten bolts and nuts to a specified level of torque you must be careful with lubricants because you can easily over stress the fastener if the threads are lubricated and the torque was specified for dry threads.

DO NOT USE nickel based never-size as you will never get it out again and a bit of grease would fine

YOU have to replace the gasket OR o-ring on the plug or it will LEAK and if you service it every year it should just not get stuck
