I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
In case you didn't see the posting on the other part of the forum, here is a video of my 12 day cruise in my Compac 23/3 named Saga. I did about 208 Nautical Miles and had some awesome spinnaker runs.

Let me know what you think!

Nice media presentation. The boat is very nicely equipped. I once sailed down the Potomac and on a rainy day left Colonial Beach for Tangier Island and just made it in before the small craft warning were posted. Got pinned down at the Island for two days and the locals were starting to say hello to me as if I had moved in. Got to talking with Mr. Parks and some of the fishing boat Captains. The Island is dry but they take their boats and go over to Crisfield for a brew or two or three. Master boat handlers. Have taken our trailerable Starwind 223 on three trips to the Cheasapeake Bay and consider it to be a premier sailing destination. Got dismasted in one trip going to St. Michaels and then lost the prop going through Kent Narrows but that was my fault for not checking the rigging. A tow boat and a fellow sailor from Pennsylvania who drove me to West Marine saved the day and we continued under power to Baltimore where the boat was hauled out on to the trailer. We had intended for a friend to pick it up but instead of flying out decided to tow it back to Florida for repairs. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us.

Colonial Beach to Tangier Island is a haul. It is at least 50 Nm.

Saga is set up for cruising. She has some nice features that I didn't show in the tour, such as the pressurized water, folding tap, and cockpit shower. She also has VHF/AIS/DSC that is networked with the GPS so the GPS shows AIS also. I love that set-up.

She is a great pocket cruiser with a draft of 2.5 feet. I am impressed with how well she sails in a variety of conditions. Still, I miss the room of a bigger boat. I am going to have Saga for a while but I do look forward to the day when I go up a few sizes.

That really is a cool video. I'm madly envious of you having two weeks to pull that off. BTW, was your spin donated from a Capri 18? Its crazy-tiny!

My boat is a Compac 23. The spinnaker isn't from a Capri 18. I am not sure what it is from but it just a little small based on my rig dimensions.

Yes, you are correct, we departed from a marina closer to the mouth of the river perhaps around Kinsale. Do remember it was rather large and had a nice restaurant. No we did not cover any 50nm that day, the foul weather hit us as soon as we left the river and had to reef down. It was some white knuckles crossing. I think we refueled in Quantico the day before and passed Colonial Beach. Its been a few years, I guess I have to go look for the trip log to get my facts straight.

Kinsale, at the time, would have meant that you stopped at the Port Kinsale Marina. At one time it had a good restaurant and it was a medium sized marina. They had a fire there a year or so ago and some management issues. I hear that it is okay now and back open. I haven't heard anything about the restaurant.

Quantico to Kinsale is also a haul. You would have had about 8 to 10 miles to round Mathias Point and then you would have had another 6-8 miles to Colonial Beach. From there another 23 miles to the Yeocomico River (Kinsale). From Kinsale to Tangier Island is probably about 26 Nautical Miles.

That crossing can be particularly nasty in bad weather, especially at Smith Point. The waves do crazy things because of the different currents meeting and when the current opposes the wind it is awful. There is a spot where you loose sight of land for a while on that passage. Tangier is worth the visit though. Mr. Parks at Parks Marina is a great person to meet and he is really nice. The people on the island, as a whole, are very nice. It is a unique place. I have yet to get Saga over to Tangier. Part of this is that I often sail with a few other people and one person, in particular, doesn't like to go into marinas. I am kind of that way but I see the validity of going into a marina once in a while for a special occasion, like Tangier Island, Smith Island, or for a real treat, Solomons Island (Zanheizers or Spring Cover Marina are VERY nice).

Working the spinnaker was a handful at times. A lot of the time I was using the camera I had the autopilot on and the spinnaker or sails held fast. I have some mounts to put the camera on but I have yet to use them. I am not sure why. I wish that I had the head band on when I was out in the Bay off of Stingray Point in the heavy weather. That would have been some crazy footage when I was going close hauled into 5 foot rollers. Even better when I had to run forward when I tacked because the jib sheet got fouled on a cleat on my mast. Fun times!!!!

My camera is a SJ Cam SJ4000: http://www.amazon.com/SJCAM-Original-SJ4000-Waterproof-Camcorder/dp/B00KH7VZJQ

I use windows movie maker to edit the footage and the video. Movie Maker is actually pretty easy to use and you don't have to be really technical to use it (trust me, I am not a techie in any form).

Oh we can do 10 hrs a day during summer daylight , no sweat. Yes it was very rough exiting the river and we had 4-6 ft seas most of the way. We motor sail to keep speed up and tacking to a minimum. Was a little hesitant as I could hear the tiller creaking . On that trip after we were done I left the boat for our nephew who is in the USCG and lived in Alexandria and the week after, he grounded and went to move the tiller and it broke at the attachment point. If that would have happened to us it would have been difficult to say the least.
