Running Wiring in a 260

We installed a new VHF radio in our Hunter 260. We are now attempting to run wiring from the radio install (just forward the mast compression post) to the cockpit for a remote microphone. There is a Hunter installed conduit in the ceiling starting at the compression post and going back to a point just over the stove in the galley. We have run a snake back through the conduit - but it hangs up at the stanchion just above the stove. If any of you have experienced this 'blockage' I'd welcome any advice on getting around it. (I have been in contact with George Pliakos on this topic ... he said that 1) this is a Bi###h to get through and 2) it is doable. Thanks George!)
Also - Is there a way to thread a wire from the top of the cabin (near the compression pole) abeam into one of the seatees (either port or starboard)? I don't see any Hunter Installed Conduit here ... but it looks like there should be a space to do so. Again - any help would be appreciated.

I just purchased a Standard Horizon and I'm pulling my boat and taking it home sometime in the next week or so...I'm about to do the same job on my H26. I don't have any advice or insights to offer but I'd appreciate any photographs and/or tips that you develop.

RGranger - when I get this figured out I'd be happy to share photos with you on this forum. I'm hopeful that Dave Condon might provide some insight on this topic.

I'm actually going to spend some time with Dave this week... we might take a short sail and then he said he can help me put the boat on my trailer. He lives about an hour from me. So I'll try to remember to ask him. If you have specifics that you would like me to ask, let me know and I'll try to get some answers with pics to go along...

Send me a PM with a list if you got specific questions.

Wow! Dave's a good guy to know - especially if you have a Hunter 26 / 260 boat. Tell him 'Greetings' - he will remember me - I had an issue with my steering cable being seized up some time back. Let me know what he says about exiting the conduit in the ceiling adjacent to the stove. Also is there a way to get a wire from the mast compression post to one of the side settees? Thanks,

My B323 has the wimpy plastic tubing, like used for wiring harnesses. It was crushed where they put the bulkhead when building the boat. I cut the conduit before and after the blockage and bypassed it. You don't HAVE to have it in conduit, but you could us PVC pipe for one.

Thanks Dave. I was very grateful to Hunter to have the conduit in the ceiling by the mast compression post ... but it's the last two inches above the stove that is sooo frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Crazy Dave, do the older H26's have conduit to the mast compression post?

On the 260, please some photos as it has been a long time on the boat to refresh my memory above the galley and to the right side,

On our 260 we also had the crushed conduit above the stove. If I remember correctly I used a rigid fibreglass fish tape and pushed/forced it through from the mast end of the conduit. I also did do a bit of digging over the stove as well with a sharp pointy object to help guide the fish through and help enlarge the opening afterward. Ended up with fish coming through the side of the conduit above the crushed portion and towards the centre line of the boat. Pulled back a replacement pull line and left a spare in place as well for future use. Flotation foam also blocked a number of conduits in various locations.

TH hit it on the head with the 260 but will post a few photos when I look at Rgranger's boat this coming week. I do not recall a tube in the 26.

Yeah, I don't think there is a conduit on the 26. I've been doing a lot of electrical installations on mine. It's been a bear. I'll post some pic's when I'm done. Today I'm installing a Plastimo Contest 101 compass just starboard of the companionway.

Doug, Could you elaborate on the wiring you've been able to complete? Did you use a wiring snake to make your runs? Were you able to get wires into the port or starboard settees from the mast compression post?

TG, I haven't tried to get wiring from the compression post. I can't see how it can be done on a 26. There is a light there, but there is no access plate like you have on the 260. The wiring I have run is from over the galley to the aft compartment. I had to install conduit under the aft berth floor. It's definitely been a challenge. I installed my VHF on the port side of the companionway steps. You can run wires to the aft compartment easily from there. I posted that project in the mods section under 26's.

Success! Just got my snake to go all the way from the mast to past the stove. I am attaching photos of the stanchion above the stove before and after I finished chiseling away material that blocked the conduit. Only took three days! Now to run the wiring. :dancing:
