I have a 1982 Catalina 30 TR and would like to bring the main halyard, and other control lines from mast aft to the cockpit. I would like to bring the lines inboard of the hand rails (currently main sheet goes through and around hand rail on starboard.) With the lines inboard of the handrails, they need to go through the teak support for the traveler. I have deck organizers to direct the lines, clutch and am going to swap out the 1 speed winch with a pair to 2 speeds (have also). Has anyone done this? Any suggestions?

What kind of traveler do you have? If it's a Garhauer, they make bullet fairleads that slide under the track to run lines aft. As you say, it all depends on the geometry of you cabintop layout, but our lines led aft go inboard of the traveler track support.

I'd call Garhauer and discuss it with them (Guido, Bill or Mark), they know your boat as well as you do and have done thousands of these upgrades. Even if you don't have a Garhauer traveler, I'm sure they'd have some ideas for you.

You could also look around at other C30s and see what they've done (depending on where you are). I have five C 30s on my dock alone and they each have a different setup.

Good luck.

Thanks all for comments. Not surprisingly, everyone seems a little different depending on age/size/equipment.
