Talked to Foss Foam yesterday...They said they were finishing it up and should be shipping it today!! On time it seems... The rest of the work is complete...Just ready for the rudder to arrive and get it drilled, prepped and hung/rigged.. Fairing on the keel went well, ready to bottom paint, was waiting on the rudder to get hung so as not to waste time/paint/brushes...

Ed, what did you use for fairing material

and remind me again what was the event that caused the damage. Scott

Unseen work.

Like most of my projects your keel and rudder work will go unseen. My wife knows that I have spent a ton of money but wonders why she can't see any changes. She thinks our boat should look like the new H386 docked next to us. I have to constantly remind myself how much safer and structurally sound she(the boat) is.

Firing Material

The fairing material, after I "reshaped" some of the lead that had been "reshaped", is West System, with filler...Kept filing it in in in layers until I go the shape back up where it should have been..I figure that there was less than 1.75 lbs of lead missing...And I don't think that we did all of it..;) Oh yeah... submerged jetty and missed marker (along with some confusing markers) did the intital damage.. Unseen Work

Ed, I'm extremely lucky.>Wendy loves having a wrench in her hands! Our first trip anywhere, we needed to change the fuel filters due to clog...When we got to the anchorage, she said, "OK, now show me what, and then help ME change the fuel filters" Gotta love it!! She has been involved in the "ARCH" project...Ran the wiring for the RADAR installation..Humps batteries, sevices batteries..ETC... What a keeper!! 73 Ed S/V MYST

Hope it arrived without damage

My first Foss purchase needed repair to correct poor workmanship. The second one I bought was damaged in transit by FedEx. Inspect it carefully and save the packaging. FedEx forked over $100 without looking at the damage

Ed in NC, how easey is it to damage the

37C rudder, or did your boat end up broadside or on top of the jetty? Just woundering if a hard grounding is going to probably cause rudder damage on my 37C boat. The keel is a beast and my recollection is that the rudder doesn't extend to the level of the keel bottom. Scott

Rudder

Well Scott...We had a tide running, ohhhh, to tell you the truth, I don't know how fast it runs there...But I can tell you that if you are diving in that area, and I have literally 600-700 dives in that neck of the woods, you DON'T want to try and be going against the tide there.. Was from the starboard, so when we struck, the cables jumped the rudder quadrant, staysail was up, and we spun into it...Was a very busy couple of mins, becuase of all the current..And the close promsimity to the concrete ramp that they bring LST's to to load...Once we relaised that we had no rudder athourity, it was time to get the brakes on...Fast... Yes, the keel is a hoss!! I think, if we hadn't lost the cables when we did (and they may have not been as tight a they should be, I don't know..Honestly I don't remember the last time I had inspected them...That is defiantely my fault, then we might not have spun into it and damaged it...Dunno...Might haves, wish I had's etc... Back In Our Home Slip

We had an un-eventful trip back from Beaufort to the New River...Spent the night in Swansboro, at Casper's Marina, and what do we find on the other side of the dock?, another 37C, from Hertford NC...They were headed to Fla of all places this time of year...Nice folks...he is retired Coast Guard..she a hairdresser(I think I got that right anyway..Turns out he served with my Boss at West Marine, and we knew a lot of people in common..Small world.... NC Ed, great photos

the first was the best, with the dock busting out with 37Cs. Boy, the subject of your later photos is a beauty. Scott
