Rudder
Well Scott...We had a tide running, ohhhh, to tell you the truth, I don't know how fast it runs there...But I can tell you that if you are diving in that area, and I have literally 600-700 dives in that neck of the woods, you DON'T want to try and be going against the tide there..Was from the starboard, so when we struck, the cables jumped the rudder quadrant, staysail was up, and we spun into it...Was a very busy couple of mins, becuase of all the current..And the close promsimity to the concrete ramp that they bring LST's to to load...Once we relaised that we had no rudder athourity, it was time to get the brakes on...Fast... Yes, the keel is a hoss!! I think, if we hadn't lost the cables when we did (and they may have not been as tight a they should be, I don't know..Honestly I don't remember the last time I had inspected them...That is defiantely my fault, then we might not have spun into it and damaged it...Dunno...Might haves, wish I had's etc...
