Wheel steering was getting hard to turn then found the problem was dried grease around the rudder post. Couldn't hardly remove the rudder. I've cleaned the post and the tube it slides in to. What lubricant should be used before assembly ?

Rudderpost Packing

Hi Vic - The rudder post is similar to the packing gland on the shaft of your engine where the propeller attaches - it may need to be repacked. The rudderpost on my boat is currently seeping seawater so I plan on repacking when I haul out. I haven't done this before so I can't offer specific advice - I'm sure there'll be a learning curve! I'll post what I learn when I get to it... Best, Trevor

grease nipple

The original owner of my 1994 C320 was concerned with that and installed a grease nipple. A shot of lube once a year seems to work.
