On my '83 Cat 30 I continue to have leaks from the top of the rudder post down to the cushions in the aft berth. It appears that rain water is seeping through the top of the post and making its way down. I've been told there is a type of silicon that can be used to "repack" the top of the post that won't restrict the steering. Has anyone heard of a product tht works or is there a better way to approach the problem? Thnx,

C30 Rudder Post Leak

I have heard of some C30 owners using Marine-Tex to build a dam to divert rainwater that runs down onto the rudder post from the channel around the aft locker lid. I put an old winch cover over the emergency tiller attachment that prevents that water from leaking down the rudder post. I don’t think that silicone would last around a post that moves. It would be better to divert the water away from the post.

Hi I had the same problem and just used 3m 4200 white in color to match gel coat basically.I just built a ridge of caulk following the same curve as the area around the rudder shaft, the water is now diverted to the cockpit floor before it hits the rudder post.Good luck
