I have a 1990 Catalina Tall Rig with a wing keel. While investigating why the two-year old rudder has a crack in it, I discovered that the rudder hangs below the keel for about 5-6 inches. I've been told that when Catalina shortened the draft for the wing keel version they didn't correspondingly shorten the rudder. Hence the replacement rudder put in was too long. Has anyone out there dealt with this problem? I'm thinking of cutting off the bottom 6 inches but am concerned about effects on the handling and exactly how far down the rudder post goes.

I think they are pulling your leg

I have a 1988 C30 TR and my rudder is shorter then the keel by about 3"+_there are two other boats in the yard that look like mine but they are late 80s boats There are C 28 that also have the keel lower then the rudder and they are wings, 90s boats I think that some one mite have swaped rudders at one time .Catalina could seend you a templet so you could see what you should have.
