So that left only to install the new vinyl insert. Now, I don't know why, but I had this fool notion that the thing to do was start the insert at one end of the rail, and pull it all the way around somehow. LOL ... NOT the way it's done!! Once I figured that out (after about four inches) I realized I could 'hook' the insert into the rail at the top, and then mash the bottom of the insert up and in until it seated in the rail. This was much better (!) and I was making decent progress, until I realized that the skin was coming off the end of my thumb!!
So, as often happens, necessity had to be the mother of invention. I realized I could set the BOTTOM of the insert in place, and then use a flat screwdriver to push the top edge down into the rail until it seated in place. Without using my thumb. LOL
In all, installing the vinyl insert took me an hour. It could have been done in a LOT less time if I had started out using the screwdriver method. Here's how the bow came out, as well as that stern corner:
