Rub rail on new design boats

So that left only to install the new vinyl insert. Now, I don't know why, but I had this fool notion that the thing to do was start the insert at one end of the rail, and pull it all the way around somehow. LOL ... NOT the way it's done!! Once I figured that out (after about four inches) I realized I could 'hook' the insert into the rail at the top, and then mash the bottom of the insert up and in until it seated in the rail. This was much better (!) and I was making decent progress, until I realized that the skin was coming off the end of my thumb!!

So, as often happens, necessity had to be the mother of invention. I realized I could set the BOTTOM of the insert in place, and then use a flat screwdriver to push the top edge down into the rail until it seated in place. Without using my thumb. LOL

In all, installing the vinyl insert took me an hour. It could have been done in a LOT less time if I had started out using the screwdriver method. Here's how the bow came out, as well as that stern corner:

I see you have grey decks, plus a blue sheer stripe. Grey vinyl insert maybe?? :)

I thought about it long and hard. Tan won out in the end because it seemed to go better with teak, and looked less battleshippy. :)

Looking good.

Interesting, I didn't know some of the C22's had a tang setup on the bow.
What years was that ?

It was my impression all the 'new designs' (86-95?) had it. Seems to me your boat should have it, or so I thought. No?

Hmm... it's seems that I'm using my full 15mins of stupidity alotment today.
Just checked the boat... yeah it has a tang... why the heck didn't I notice that yet ?
Probably been sniffing too many stain and turpentine fumes and working inside the hull to even notice.
LOL..

Been spending all my time dealing with stuff inside so far.
Would you believe I still have no idea how the boat is rigged or where all the lines go ?
All I've got is a pile of rope. The main sheet and docklines are obvious but the rest I have no idea yet.
With luck the bulkheads will be installed on monday and I can step the mast and figure out what is what.

FWIW: my boat came with 3/8" gudgeons for some reason, although I was told by 1987 all boats were 1/2".

Nice job Gene, looks great. I'm still trying to get a time slot to replace my transom drains like you and CCrane did, you're making it hard on us new design owners to "keep up with the Genes's."
