Last year, I noticed that the coachroof under the mast step was compressing slightly, appx 1/4- 5/16 inch. the headliner beneath was slightly deformed, but only by half that amount. I figureed that at the end of the season, before I pulled her, I would unstep the mast and investigate. Fall came and went without my having the opportunity (high tide and time from work) to unstep the mast OR pull the boat.Over the winter I e-mailed Catalina and they promptly faxed me a sketch showing a probable void under the mast step and suggested I use some sort of hook to lift the area and fill it with epoxy. That procedure was echoed on ths forum as well. This spring, when I was able to unstep the mast, I also drilled into the area beneath the mast and found that the plywood was saturated. How far does this plywood extend? I spoke to a local boat repair facility, and they qouted a significant fraction of the value of the boat to repair it. Has anyone else experienced this situation? How did you procede?
