Rope to chain - best connector?

Right now on my anchor rode I have 30' of chain attached to rope rode. There is a metal reinforcing piece lining the eye of the rope (thimbal?) with a quick link attaching the two. My problem is that the thimbal is too big to make it through my Anchor roller (Windline) and I end up manually lifting the connection over. This would seem unacceptable, but I can't readily find another solution short of having the two spliced together which I understand wears quickly & has to be redone regularly. Someone must have a better solution. How do you connect your rope & chain?

Rope to chain holds up well

I splice the rope directly to the chain, using the rope-to-chain splice described by Brion Toss (briontoss.com). The splice grips the first chain link very tightly so there's no movement between the rope and the chain, so the wear is limited. It's prudent to check frequently for wear, but the only time I've had to re-splice is when I end-to-end my anchor line. The rope-to-chain splice slides very easily through my Windline bow roller.

You might also try a smaller thimble. LaDonna
