Anybody use something (Ionizer) like this (http://www.peakpureair.com/surroundair.htm)? I'm wondering if they really work.

They're just very expensive air fresheners

You can accomplish at least as much with a can of Oust. Ionizers and ozone generators are not recommended for use on boats or any other enclosed space...they're corrosive...highly damaging to rubber and hoses...and can also be a health hazard. Only licensed techs can use machines that produce enough ozone to kill the source of odors...the best that any retail unit can do is remove the odor from the air. Yes, people who’ve bought them DO rave do about how well they work. But among all the people you know who’ve bought ozone generators, have you ever met anyone who has one who's ever been able to turn if off without having odors return? That should be enough to tell you that ozone generators are only very expensive air fresheners, because they don't deliver enough ozone to be anything else. Save your money and get rid of the SOURCES of your odors. Eliminating the source is the only thing that really works. Clean the bilge--really CLEAN it for a change, instead of only dumping in more bilge cleaner and/or bleach...clean your sumps....put your cushions out the sun for a day...maybe replace your sanitation hoses. And check out the link below.

yes and no

When working for a charter company a few years back, we had one boat in the fleet that had all kinds of odors that just would not go away. Someone down the dock suggested we borrow his ionizer. This was long before they became all the rage. We set it up and let it run uninterupted for about three days. When we checked on the boat (after three days) the smell was gone! We packed up the unit and returned it to its owner. The next day it smelled like the ionizer was never there. Conclusion (at least from my experience), If you leave it on whenever you leave the boat, it'll probably do the trick... for the short term. The best cure is to track down the odor causers and eliminate the foul aroma at its source.

Thanks

"The best cure is to track down the odor causers and eliminate the foul aroma at its source. " That's always been my thought...don't cover it up but fix it. I have a job to do on my exhaust that I know I have to fix. I'm hoping that fixes all my odor problems but it's hard to tell (I think because the exhaust runs under the alf cabin, the smell roams throughout the boat under the floorboard and comes out all over the place and that's why it seems to have a smell in the strangest places). Anyway, when I had my dock neighbor over to tell me what he thought could be causing the problem, he said my boat didn't smell any different then any other boat and that I need to get used to the "boat smell". Well...I am thinking of living aboard and can't have my work clothes smelling so that's not an option. I was thinking this could be a solution to the odors that I can't track down. Now I'm REALLY hoping the exhaust is the only source I have.
