I have a Catalina 27 (1977) Would like to install a roler furler. I assume I can use one of my existing headsails. I have a genova 115. Would this be the prefered sail to use? Also, any specific brand of furler that anyone has experience with that works well with this boat? Given the age of the boat, I would prefer to not spend too much on this. What adaptations need to be done? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Furling Head Sail

Mike: You typed "I have a genova 115". Not sure if this is a typo, but 115 seems quite small to be considered a genoa. A lapper jib maybe. A 115 headsail is quite small to use on a furler as an all purpose headsail. Just my opinion. It really depends upon the typical sailing conditions you are sailing in. If most of your sailing is done in light to moderate wind conditions, I would recommend a 150 genoa as a good all purpose sail. It could be reefed down to a 135 and still be fairly efficient. But on light air days, you will want the large headsail. If you are in breezy conditions most of the time, you might want to consider the 135 as a good choice. I have a 150 on a Hood SeaFurl system on my C270. Hood systems are fairly expensive. I have used CDI flexible furler in the past, and was happy with it. It is a lot less expensive, and installs quite easily.
