Craig ----

Thanks for the link you posted. I think the real issue here would be satisfied by highlighting/advising to us and others of where to get the best relative 'deal' to get one of your anchors. Id prefer to buy what I consider to be the best or close to the best (value).... pricing position will help. :)

In protest of Craig

I will never have anything good to say about his anchor or his company. There are always other choices. By him advertising on here, it gives him an unfair advantage over the competitors. That tells me a lot about the man. Tony B

now Tony..

That's mature! C'mon he has never, that I could find, (I searched) STARTED a thread here! He is responding to folks like you who for no other reason than you don't think he should be able to defend his product slam him. Quote TonyB: "I will never have anything good to say about his anchor or his company." How can you honestly comment either way without having first used the product?? "I think caviar tastes like crap though I've never really tasted it..." ?????????? Huh??? That's what you're doing.. BTW I personally welcome EVERY manufacture to enter into conversations when their product is maligned! Manson, Lemar, Spade, Fortress, Harken, Catalina, Beneteau etc. etc.. They are all welcome and it might just make products BETTER if they LISTEN to their customers!!!! It's NOT Craig's fault the other manufacturers don't choose to participate... Phil does NOT allow advertising and he watches it carefully! Just try posting a note letting everyone know you've posted something for sale on the "gear here" section and see how fast it comes down!! Craig is DEFENDING his product from folks who malign it, most of whom having never actually used it. Yes he goes over the line sometimes, as many of us do, myself included, and he should be called on it, as you or I should, but you can't fault the guy for defending the reputation of his product. I would love to see someone from Catalina, Hunter or Beneteau on here defending the mis-truths about their product but they choose not to! There is a difference: As an original post; = Advertising "Hi guys I have this cool new anchor and its better than any other anchor on the market to buy it click here!" As a defense: When someone says this.. "old anchors that have worked and the new anchors that are want-a-bees.". Any manufacturer, Craig included, should be able to respond! Quote TonyB: "By him advertising on here, it gives him an unfair advantage over the competitors." No! It means his competitors have CHOSEN not to pay attention to the very vocal on-line community that often drives the market forces in this small niche market and Craig has. It is NOT and unfair advantage it's smart business in todays world!! If the other manufacturers CHOOSE to bury their heads in the sand, and ignore the on-line sailing community, it's their CHOICE!! Should Bob Perry be banned form forums too???? How many designs commissions has he earned by being a part of the on-line community or how many books has he sold??

Quote Rick: "If Craig wants to compete in the anchor business he'd better re-think his pricing." Are you listening Craig????? Rick I couldn't agree more!

I respect all of what you have contributed to this forum, but this time I think you are off base. I dont think manufacturers should be on here defending their products. It is a form of advertising. Besides most manufacturers will tell you why their product is the best and then we are back to square one. Also, if a manufacturer has the right to defend (free advertise) then why not also the distributors and dealers of these products. I have recently re-started a small marine supply business. Its only part time, but its a business just the same. Ill bet no one on here is aware of that. When it comes to products, Im sure it would be OK with you if I explain why the products I carry are better. Be it rigging, woodworking, air conditioning, refrigeration or whatever topic comes up. I think Phil would also have a problem with this. As for your statement "How can you honestly comment either way without having first used the product??" I wasnt intending to comment on his product, it would be a comment on what I thinbk of him as a person. Maybe we could get a more valid evaluation of a product by comments from users and how they have used the product successfully or otherwise without the muddling of the manufacturers hype. Tony B

...no one in this forum has been able to answer the original question: "Has anyone found a supplier of Rocna anchors that offers any sort of a rational price? That, in itself, has got to tell you something.

What a hoot

Grown men spewing all sort of venom over anchors. Hello! There is no one best anchor. There are many bottom conditions and anchors suited to them. For the waters we sail in I love my Bruce.

Perhaps all future anchor threads

should go into Sails Call Lounge with religion and politics and all of those subjects that get our hackles up.

You mean like...

Sail trim, anchoring, waxing vs. poli glow, gelcoat vs. LPU paint, batteries, wiring, rough weather tactics, fog, navigation, GPS/Compass, Cetol/varnish, bottom paint, fin/full keel, Catalina vs. the world, Beneteau vs. the world, Hunter vs. the world, what makes a boat blue water, bedding compounds/5200 vs. others, dodger/no dodger, Atomic 4/diesel, Raymarine vs. Garmin, speed through water vs. SOG....;););) I guess everything should go to off topic as they all can get contentious from time to time..;)

Lawn ornaments

Remember that old story about the house that had ceramic models of the seven dwarfs in the front yard? You may recall that one night Grumpy was stolen. In the following months the owner received postcards of Grumpy in front of the Grand Canyon, Statue of Liberty, Berlin Wall, etc.? Then one day, about a year later, Grumpy re-appeared on the lawn. That's this thread.
