I have not gone on the Missouri River but I have gone the length of the Arkansas. There are state parks all down the Ark river to stay at. Great accommodations I live in Farmington. Have you tried it? We are planning a trip from Memphis to New Orleans when it cools off. What part and when are you are you planning to go ? You can contact me at jwh@uark.edu if you want to.

Depends on where on the Missouri. Down river from Yankton SD the current is way too strong all the way to the Mississippi. Also, there are few and VERY far between marina's, and lot's of snags. If you get into trouble, you're on your own. Have you thought about the Mississippi River? There are dams starting just north of St. Louis, and the river widens out and current is minimal usually except in the channel. Years go I lived on my sailboat for 6 months while on business in St. Louis. I was on the Alton Pool and had a BLAST! We took a 5 day trip up river and through one of the locks. It was a trip we'll never forget! I can't wait to retire and spend some time again on the Mississippi.

My wife and I are contemplating doing parts of this starting in Dubuque Iowa

http://www.greatloop.org/

on the Mississippi. We want to do a month or so on a leg and then go home. Our other alternative is for my wife to work as a traveling nurse and we would put into what ever town she would have an assignment for 13 weeks and then move on. I work where ever I am in person or on the phone and internet.

We have a 26' Sailboat now, but we are thinking of moving up to a 32 or 36 after we have some hours under our belt on this boat.

This seems like just the thing for long term curising and not have to mess with all the foreign country rules and regs.

The total length is around 7400 miles and normally gets broken up into seasonal cruises based on the weather.

Have fun.

Regards,

Tom...

Tom, When I was on the Alton Pool of the Mississippi, I met a older couple that was finishing the Great Loop. They lived down in the Key's and took the ICW up to New York, up the Hudson River and into the Erie Canal. Then spent the summer in the Great Lakes and then into the Chicago sanitation canal which turns into the Illinois River. They came down to Grafton Ill. where I met them at the marina, and raised their mast for the rest of the trip. Sounded like a neat experience.
