I ordered a backstay from xxxxxx.com and gave the following description of the end fitting at the mast crane end: 1. top part of backstay - 7x19 stainless 3/16" - TOP FITTING - swaged stem ball to fit Isomat crane (16.5mm across top of hemisphere - the bit that goes through the cup, the ball "cup" is 26.5mm dia, 11.8mm top-bottom) BOTTOM FITTING ..... (snip) The backstay was delivered today but there is no cup. I can't fit the original cup over the bottom swaged fork as the fork is too big. I haven't been up the mast yet (thunderstorms about!) but I suspect the stem ball without the cup will pass straight though the mast crane (or at least not be a good fit). I'm about to complain that xxxx.com didn't supply what I ordered - that is, they should have put a cup on the wire before they swaged it. Do you think that's a reasonable complaint? (I've attached a pic of the original stay with the cup in place)

Stemball

Absoluely complain, the stemball with out the cup is useless! The only time this isn't an issue is if the other end is threaded fitting where the cup will slide over, with a fork the cup has to go on before swaging!
