hi, i just got this boat and the water pump doesnt work so i am tracing wires and it seems the water pump is wired to an extra switch and the wires are not properly sealed so can i bypass this switch and connect to axillary switch on the panel or directly to battery? of the 3 wires the middle one is the pump does it go + or _ ? i hope this makes sense

i didn't think it would be this hard to figure out. what a mess i made. too bad they didn't just put a hand pump instead of electric....i just want water to the sink.

I'd say you can bypass the switch in the picture and just take power from the panel switch. You do not want to wire directly to the battery as that would give you no way to turn the unit off. What happens when you spring a leak while away from the boat? It pumps all your water out of your tank then continues to run. That either drains the battery or if you have the charger on burns out the pump.
Clearly the PO was operating WAY BEYOND his skill level. The switch is a lighted one. The right (looking at the picture) terminal is the hot from the battery or main buss, the center goes to the load and the left terminal is the ground for the LED on the switch front. You need a ground to get the led to light up. The switch will work fine with out it BTW.

Fully rewired my current Catalina 30.
Best way to deal with that is make a pile as there will be stuff hacked all over and it will plague you for ever a NEW 250' roll of 14/2 wire is only 110 dollars from genuinedealz

Thanks for all the input. After the day of messing with and tracing the wires and reading your input i decided you all right.....i'm going to start over and rewire it all. I'm guessing that the pump is faulty and thats why it didn't work. I would like to trade the electric faucet for a simple hand or foot pump. I think this is a small enough job that i should be able to do it myself. This is a great place to share frustration of boat repairs and i appreciate your inputs.

As you rewire or trace wiring, make a drawing and put tags on the wires. I like the 1/4" strips with one number, in the range of 1 to 45, repeated multiple times on each adhesive strip. The redundancy allows the number to be determined even if the strip is damaged. You wrap a same numbered strip around the wire at both ends. The drawing will be invaluable in the future. Color coded wires are helpful but not as good as unique wire IDs.

if what you want is fresh water from a f w tank, you can buy a small foot operated pump $30 and install it in the cabin somewhere. input to the pump comes from the f w tank. output from the pump goes to hose feeding the sink. press your foot on the pump and you get h 2 0 out of the pump into your spigot. get a connector for the hose, to bypass the old electric f w pump. with the connector, connect the inlet hose that used to be on the electric f w pump inlet to the hose coming out of the old f w pump. then figure out where your footswitch pump should be conveniently located...mount the foot pump .and attach hoses' inlet and outlet to the new foot pump. unlikely that the foot pump will burn your boat down , compared to that &*()_ of ******E wiring job.
