Great pictures guys, more than worth a thousand words. I was in awe of Jim's panel work when I first saw it, still am. Although it looks like the AC is on the right in the picture. Your photo shows exactly what I am up against Maine Sail. Including the little jumper between the two banks. And I assume I should have a fuse on my 12-foot #6 somewhere close to the battery switch.
Yes, if you have a 12' run then it should ideally be fused to protect the #6 wire over the long run. I have used MRBF's on the "C" post before, if the depth is available and space permits...

Ed, the picture of the black switch panel (with AC on left) is mine The picture of the brown switch panel (with the AC on the right, like yours) is Phillipe's. My wiring was tidy, but Phillipe definitely raised the bar!

I installed a Blue Seas MAXI Fuse Block with an 80A fuse just below and to the right of the main battery switch (less than 6" wire length away).

A bit of trivia: You may notice the small, in-line fuse holder coming off the MAXI Fuse Block - that is the "unswitched" brown wire that goes to the bilge pump. Of course it is, in fact, switched by the main battery switch.

Blue Seas recommends only one wire lug to an MRBF( http://bluesea.com/viewresource/640 ). But I would have the 1/0 cable and the new #6 if I understand what you are suggesting Maine Sail.
I guess you can only have one lug per MRBF because of the insulating washer that is part of the system? Didn't have that problem because I used the MAXI Fuse Block I mentioned previously (but I didn't know about MRBF fuse then either! LOL). I do plan to use MRBF fuses to protect the wires running from my batteries to the battery switch.

Bill, you surely mean "those" guys leaving me out of it. If you could see behind my panel you would know what I mean. The sad fact is that the rat's nest is factory original. Well except for a couple of additions. Even if I had a picture of the back I would be embarrassed to post it.

The 1/0 is already protected at the battery. The #6 can be run off an MRBF. The MRBF feed sits on top of the 1/0 lugon the "C" post (largest load is always on the bottom) and protects only the #6, thus one wire connected to the MRBF.....

Got it . . . I think. New 1/0 red cable goes on the 'C' post of the new battery switch. On top of that the new fuse block, essentially a bracket that holds the MRBF fuse. To that I attach my new 12' #6 wire and route that to the panel. So easy to write about! Thanks Maine Sail. Thanks Jim.

Hi Ed:

When reading the above post of yours, I got a nagging feeling because I couldn't recall that my BlueSea on-battery fuse system conformed to that in your URL. In particular, I didn't think my BlueSea on battery fuse had: "The shank of the fiber washer must seat inside the cable end ring terminal."

I notice that your link has a 2007 date reference.

Today at my boat, I took a look. Definitely no fiber washer. Instead, my battery terminal fuse has a different design as per the below link. Just thought to post this in case you are looking at an outdated design -- but that you might have the newer one installed.

In particular, notice the difference in the cross section of the lower fitting between the two url's
