NULL NULL Boatless in Seattle
Wait a year

We just sold our Hunter 31,and once again find ourselves boatless in Seattle. I have made a list of priorities for the next boat: 1.)In mast main furling system 2.)Radar 3.)Stern rail seats 4.)A bed you can get in and out of from both sides. And the patience to wait for the best boat we can afford

Why do you need a bed you can get out of

from both sides? Stern rail seats can be added to any boat, even with standard Stern rails - we have them. Radar - in your neck of the woods, every desirable, but perhaps not NECESSARY. In-mast furling -- your boat, your choice, but why do you need a new (or new-to-you) boat to do all of this. Wouldn't your old boat have been fine without one or two of these? Just asking...

Bright and shiney

I resolve to finally clean, compound and polish the topsides like I promised to do for the past several years but opted to go sailing instead! I also hope to refinish the interior wood which has gotten a bit dark with age and the sole is looking a bit worn. Finally, I am planning a cruise to NYC from the Chesapeake Bay this June. So far I have about 6 boats joining me. How wonderful it would be if Mandolin was all spiffed up for the event!

All about time

I didn't make much of it for the boat last year. Found it too hard to manage all the other priorities in life. But this year won't be any easier, in fact it will be harder with another baby due in June. But I will force myself to get organized and stay that way. I bought a fishing license for the boat, hoping that will help motivate me to get on board (I won't want to waste that money!) On the plus side, my daughter will likely be old enough to sail with just Daddy, instead of requiring Mommy to keep track of her while Daddy sails. That should help me a bit. Should all of those issues go as planned, I might get really ambitious and do a better job of cleaning and maintenance, and maybe get that new main I've been talking about for 4 years now.

Take 2 weeks off for cruise

Take a couple of weeks off and either cruise from Chicago to Sturgeon Bay or perhaps as far as Mackinac Island if I can stretch out my vacation time. Take a couple of shorter trips on long weekends. Install an on board fuel polishing system this winter. One time with no engine was a huge lesson.

1-Expand our cruising ground to include the Canadian Gulf Islands. 2-Take friends out for sails on the lake more often. 3-Catch some of our own food while cruising. 4-Poke fun at the liberal sailors on the "Sails Call" Forum! ;)

My big project this year is planning the Lats & Atts party 2008. We will be holding the party at the Point Hudson Marina on Augusr 9th & 10th. We are expecting some 80 boats to attend. Come and join the fun. For the kids we will have a treasur hunt, pinata, movies on the main sail and more. For adults there is free beer, a pot luck and Eric Stone and his band will be playing. Testudo (Hunter 27) will get a new Roller Furling and Lazy Jack system. PROVIDING WE GET ENOUGH RAIN IN ATLANTA TO RAISE THE WATER LEVEL IN LAKE LANIER P.S. - This is my last day at work. As of 4pm, I will be RETIRED!!!!!
