27 OB
I've got a '74 Cat27 OB model. It's powered by a 2000 Johnson 15HP 2-stroke. The OB has remote controls, electric start, alternator. It mounts on a factory mount with an opening thru the transom, so that it tilts up into the lazarrette. I replaced a '91 Evinrude 9.9 with the 15. The 15 has more power to push thru chop, against headwinds, and tow a dink. But max speed is not signicantly changed, still about 5.9-6K. The 15 burns about 1.25 GPH, whereas the 9.9 burned about .8GPH. I regularly motor long distances (60NM) w/o stopping, so I'd want your internal tank for the greater fuel capacity. (I have 2 8.5 gal tanks in the lazarrette). If you now have an IB, I'm not sure where you'd put the standard 6-gal OB tanks. You'll definitely need a longshaft (20"), and if you mount it on one of those kickup transom brackets, maybe an extra long (25") shaft. If you use the transom bracket, you'll want to rig some way to remotely and easily pull up the OB from inside the boat. (Your new OB will weigh about 80 lbs, or 100+ if you get a 4-stroke.)
