Hunter 27 repowers
When Hunter started the H-27 (1974), Yanmar wasn't making anything smaller than maybe the 12-HP marine diesel. It is entirely probable that Yanmar America instigated the 8-HP diesel because of the H-27 demand. That was probably about 1978. When I was with a Hunter dealer in 1982 I was ordering impellers and other parts for the Renault owners from Guy Couache in Ft Lauderdale. These parts are still available by whoever took that over.MOST H-27 Mk 1 repowers have been with Yanmar, since the installation of the 8-HP engine into the existing H-27 was a known entity-- the boats essentially were brought up to later spec. I think the engine logs are the sane width for both motors (again that would be a Yanmar specification).I would not go for an outboard on the heavy and rolly H-27. The boat's whole value is that it was one of the cheapest DIESEL-powered cruising boats in the market.. and that's still a selling feature today. Ten or twelve grand gets you a very decent wheel-steering H-27. That's WITH a newer Yanmar.
