Last night, it was reported that this ship was trying to sail out of harms way headed south but sank off the coast of North Carolina. 14 crewmen were rescued by the Coast Guard. When asked for the Coast Guard crewman credited saving the lives to be on TV, he declined as the crew took the stance that it was their job. I am grateful to the United States Coast Guard for the valiant rescue plus the fact they are not taking any credit other than to say it was their job.

One crewman was found dead but the Captain of the Bounty is still missing. SAR will continue today off the coast of North Carolina. In the meantime, I ask for prayers to those affected by Hurricane Sandy for their saftey.

It hit me hard hearing this sad news as I have been on that boat before and have a jacket proudly bearing the name of HMS Bounty. My heart goes out for the dead crewman and missing Captain. Yes it is a sad day for me.

I too was on this great sailing vessel. This past summer while visiting relatives in Maine we found her docked in Belfast offering walk thru tours. Although it was only a tourist thing I loved seeing her "bones" below. Great loss to the sailing world. And yes. hats off to the fine men and women of the USCG.

We went aboard the Bounty a number of years ago when she was berth in Fall River, MA. Seemed well made and maintained. A good visit with ship and crew.

I will never understand why they decided to leave Connecticut last week knowing what was coming. While they were trying to "skirt" the storm to it's East, they needed to be another few hundred NM to the East of where they were. It's easy to "Monday Morning Quarterback" but I still don't understand the decision to leave then.

Prayers to the lost crew women, and the missing Captain. Hopefully he will still be found alive. Enormous credit to the USCG Helio Crew for their rescue in very harsh conditions.

Numb

I, too was on-board the HMS Bounty for two tours as a guide while she was docked for a festival in Alexandria, Virginia. I also crewed on the Schooner Alexandria, before she was lost off Cape Hatteras in December '96. This also brings to mind the loss of the Pride of Baltimore. I just feel numb after hearing news like this.
