"General Interest" or "Hunter 28.5"?
Cappy - "General Interest" means the post is relevant to ALL boats but it appears it is applicable to just 28.5s??? If General Interest is selected then that puts the post in with the O'Day, Beneteau, Catalina, etc. forums. To answer your question, though, suggest attaching a line to the main halyard and hoist it to the masthead then stretch it tight to the end of the boom. Note the point where it meets the end of boom. Also stretch it tight from the masthead to the point on the mast where it makes an exit and note that point. Pull the halyard back down and measure these lengths. Add any other lengths (for knots, distance to bitter end, length from the halyard shackle to the sheave when it was hoisted x 2, etc.) and take the sum total of everything. This should be really close to what you need to buy. Size: no comment - if the existing works replace in kind?Steaming Light: Use Lanocote on stainless screws when replacing, both in-mast screws and the long screws that hold the lens cover on. Use dielectric compound on all wire/brass connections to prevent corrosion, ditto on the festoon bulb contacts.
