I have a worn out motor bracket on my boat that I have tried to fix, but my fix is just not going to work out. I went shopping tonight and bought the Garelick mount - see link. Oh, I should mention that I have the 8hp Honda 4 stroke motor. The holes line up fine with the old holes already in the transom, but the handle on the mount is almost flush with the mount so I'd have to shim the mount out a bit. After staring at it a while, I find that I would have to put a block about 3-4 inches thick to get the mount out far enough to operate the handle! I'm thinking of returning the mount and getting something else. I did see another Garelick mount that was less expensive and would hold up to 115 lbs and 20hp....but, they say it is only for 2 stroke motors, and the holes would have to be modified to fit my existing transom holes. I'd like to avoid drilling any more holes in the boat (I found a few more that were used in the past and filled.) So, should I just give up and get the 3 spring mount from Catalina Direct? Modify the cheaper Garelick (it's model number Mfr # 71056:01 - Google it!) mount to fit my holes? It says it's not recommended for 4 stroke, why is that? More twisting torque? Anyway, I'm just a bit frustrated at the moment for spending the evening staring at the back of my boat. *sigh* Ideas? Tom

Motor Mount

Hi Tom, I have an 4 stroke, 8HP Honda as well. My mount is the two spring mount from Catalina, (it came with the boat). I have no problems what so ever with that combination of motor/bracket. It works great! Take that other thing back, and go to catalina direct. Take care, Jay

Mount

I'm taking that back tonight. I'll take one more look at that $160 mount and see how the holes compare with the one that I'm returning to see how much modification I'd have to do to fit it on there. Otherwise, I'm nearly convinced now that I'll just send order the catalina mount and have no problems at all. I might order a keel cable and other small items while I'm at it and maybe save a little on shipping.

Try the C25 Association website

I know you have a C22, but the C25 message board is one of the best and they have answers for the motor mount. Go here: http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=1

Don't forget

Garhauer will not only rebuild your mount but will add the extra spring/springs as well. I had mine rebuilt last year, new bronze bushings extra spring a whopping 90 bucks. Before you trash the one you have you might want to give them a call.

Garhauer motor mount

Hi Tom, I'm sorry that I forgot to mention that Garhauer Marine has a motor mount that is( I believe) the same as the one Catalina Direct sells. It's part # is OB-125, it will handle up to 125 lbs, and it's $170.50. Hope this helps. I have done business with Garhauer Marine and they are very nice people to deal with. take care, Jay

Garhauer

I saw that website, but I can't find anything in there about a motor mount. Maybe I have to call them and ask for part number OB-125? So that is the same thing as the Catalina mount? Same transom mounting with matching holes? T.

Catalog from Garhauer

Tom, The motor mount is from thier catalog. Page 52 Call them and ask for Mark. Nice guy and very helpful. I just received an order from them this morning. I ordered 13 different eye straps of various sizes. Great products. I'm not sure about the holes lining up, I'm guessing that they will, but Mark would know for sure. Good luck, Jay

Mount.

Tonight I returned the mount I had and got a smaller mount which should be sturdy enough. I'll have to grind the metal on the mount to fit some of the holes (I'm NOT putting anymore holes in my boat). But that should work ok. I think the handle should clear the transom ok. This one was $159. I'll stare at it for a while before doing anything. I don't want to grind anything until I know this will work ok - in case I need to take this back also. Tom
