I am going to tackle replacing the teak handrails, companionway, ect on my 1985 Catalina 30'. Has anyone done this before on their boat? I am not quiet sure how to go about taking them off.

It would be a help...

if you could insert a photo of where-abouts of teak part in question. A picture is worth a thousand words to a Frenchman. Rich

Why Remove it

I have basicly the same setup on my Newport and I just sanded it and refinished it where it stands. I'll post some pics when I go to the boat next week if you like.

Sanding didn;t work. Its to far gone.

The wood was not taken care of by prior owner. It is not only very dry but there are deep ridges in it as well. I have the ability to have new peices made for pennies on the dollar. I would like to know how difficult it will be to get them off and new ones back on.

teak

I agree with the others. Also, some of my teak was attached (by a p/o) with 5200!

H&L Marine may have the pieces you need.

JayDog: H&L Marine in Rancho Dominquez may have the pieces that you need. They probably were the OEM for all of the interior and exterior wood on your boat. I don't know if this number is current, but you can try it. H & L Marine 323/636-1718 2965 Harcourt St Ranco Dominquez, CA 90221 Good Luck.
