Replacing port side hull controls with "new" ones.

So I found a set of these on eBay and snagged them. The existing controls were underwater for a long time and I have tried and tried to free them as best I can with spray and grease, you name it. My question is, has anyone ever replaced the old style Morse with the ones pictured below? If so, did your engine still kill by throttling back aft past idle? Universal Atpomic 5411 on Catalina 27, 1982.

Do not know why the new one would not function the same since the shutoff is controlled by the throttle cable just like the existing one. My experience is based on replacing 2 Morse controls (one for transmission and the other for throttle on two engines) in the upper helm of my powerboat recently. Also suggest checking with your local marine engine mechanic to get his opinion.
