Has anyone replaced the oil sending unit on the Hunter 49. It's at the back of the engine, can it be replaced without removing the engine. It seems impossible to get at.

Yes, I have done that

I assume you are talking about the oil pressure guage.
Mine was flaky from day 1.
I used a rubber strap wrench on the body of it.

It was able to loosen it enough to get it out.
However, when I replaced it, I wanted a wrench on the flats just to snug it.
You need a long wrench, or just put an extension on an existing one.

Have you done my engine access modification?
It gives you full access to the front of the engine. Also, much improved genset access.
It's in the archives.

Btw, my water pump impelker change over modification is coming up soon.
You will be impressed (I hope)

Yes the sender for the oil pressure gauge. I have taken the air intake tube off from the turbo now I have chance on getting to the sender. Need a 14mm foot wrench.

Do you have a low oil pressure horn. If Hunter put one on mine has never worked.
I did your access mod. last year. I have the Yanmar tool for removing the impeller, it works great!

Ok, here's the scoop.
There is no oil pressure horn.
There is something better.
As you know, the Yanmar is wired to a Telefkex N2k interface.
But, there is the crappy Maretron display guage in the cockpit, which I never use.

Instead, (as I have mentioned before) the best trick is to connect your Raymarine plotters to the Teleflex N2k.
Now your plotters will show all your engine data, including oil pressure, rpm, etc.
Once you've done this, you will kick yourself for not doing it sooner.
I have some extra cables for this, because I upgraded all my plotters & instruments. I'm sure you still have your E classic plotters.
Using the impeller Jack screw tool is all very good & well, but you need to access the pump to use it.
I defy any 49 owner to get to the water pump in any conditions other than tied to a dock.
My modification will permit changing it in sea conditions. I've always had great concern about this.
I'm glad to hear you did my engine access mod. It is, in my opinion, essential.
