Replacing compass oil

A couple weeks ago I received great advise to the discoloring problem with my compass (unfortunately the responses were deleted from the system). I have pulled the compass to replace the oil and would like to know what kind of oil I should use. Should the compass insides be cleaned somehow?Thanks to all who responed last week!

mineral oil?

I read that thread with interest & printed it out (although I don't have it with me here at my "real" job). I think I remember something about mineral oil. If nobody else responds, I'll post again when I get home tonight & read the suggested oil.LaDonna
