I don't know the answer to the first part of your question, but I can help you with the wood rot problem.Most cabin soles are plywood with the top layer being teak or teak and holly. The end grain is very pourious and will wick moisture causing the layers to delaminate and rot. To prevent this from happining again to your new sole, coat all the edges with epoxy to waterproof them. I also would apply two or three coats of outdoor polyurathane to the backside to protect it from the high moisture enviroment of the bildge.Good Luck, Bobs/v H31 Lady Di II
