I need to replace the cabin sole in my 1986 Cat 36. Does anyone know of a supplier who can precut the boards? Also, apparently water got behing the existing boards and rotted them from beneath. What can I put on the new boards to prevent this problem?

Half of an answer

I don't know the answer to the first part of your question, but I can help you with the wood rot problem. Most cabin soles are plywood with the top layer being teak or teak and holly. The end grain is very pourious and will wick moisture causing the layers to delaminate and rot. To prevent this from happining again to your new sole, coat all the edges with epoxy to waterproof them. I also would apply two or three coats of outdoor polyurathane to the backside to protect it from the high moisture enviroment of the bildge. Good Luck, Bob s/v H31 Lady Di II

Excellent

point Bob (sealing edges); but why not epoxy-coat the bottom side, as long as you're mixing? :) Gord

Woodland Hills is a short drive.

Peter: You should contact Catalina. They are a short drive up I-5. Give them a call, they may have them in stock. If not, they can probably make them up for you. I would agree with the other posters, that you want to seal the wood on the edges and the bottom. If you prefer not to use epoxy even some varnish should do a good job.
