Replacement for floor outside head/shower

The flooring outside the head/shower on my boat is looking pretty bad. It's some old brown rubber non-skid stuff that looks awful. I'd like to find something that gives a fresh look. Any suggestions for a replacement? The area is not that big, so even a pricier material would be fine. Also, we seldom actually use the shower, so the non-skid aspect is probably not that critical.
Thanks!
Gary

The red oak sounds nice. After doing a bit more research, it appears the original material was Treadmaster. Could go with that, in a lighter color (i.e., sand), but would still like to hear of any alternatives.
Thanks!

FWIW - When/if I replace mine, I'll just replace with new Treadmaster...easy, adequate, 'cheap', good enough ...

H30Gary, Could you post pics of your current flooring?

22andretired , could you post a pic of your solution?

I ripped out the original carpet years ago.

Thanks,
G.

Here are photos of the floor before and after I pulled off the Treadmaster. The flooring was held on by silicone rubber - lots of it. Whoever installed the flooring didn't come off easily - and it didn't. Actually, could have been worse. Interestingly, under the Treadmaster was a nicely masked off area of grey non-skid. So I'm wondering, was the Treadmaster an owner mod, or possibly a factory option?

With the dark brown Treadmaster out, the front of the boat looks lighter and brighter. So, I'm thinking about going with either "light grey" or "sand" colored Treadmaster. For that matter, could just repaint the grey non-skid. This would leave a bit of an elevation difference between the teak and holly cabin sole and the forward cabin, but not much.

Decisions, decisions!

PS: I was able to remove most of the silicone with a scraper, but there is still some residue, especially in the non-skid area. Getting this off so something else will stick seems like a challenge. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Heck, on my H30 I was just going to put down some self stick carpet tile from Lowes in that little area. When they get dirty or stained, just cut a new piece. I don't plan on using that tiny shower much anyway. The Admiral said she would rather shower in the cockpit so I bought a galley faucet with a 6' sprayer hose to use in the cockpit.

Good ideas both. I don't expect to use the shower much either. Showering in the cockpit sounds like more fun.

The original came with a cheap plush carpet in brown (in my case). It lasted two seasons, until I kept soaking it with shower overspray and drips.
(I lived on Intuition for two years).

The elevation difference was minimized where the carpet joined the teak with an aluminum trim strip.

What did you replace the carpeting with? Just the bare floor?

I've left it bare mostly, but did cut a piece of light gray indoor/outdoor for use when the Admiral is visiting.

Still mulling over options. Kinda leaning towards Durabak non-skid paint. Seems like it would be easier to clean than Treadmaster, while still being kind on the feet and offering good traction. Could use it topside also.

Haven't decided yet, but leaning towards the Durabak. Definitely not carpet!

Ok, have to throw my .02 in on this since I completed my H30 floor last spring and have been curious how it would hold up.

We chose cork tiles. After sanding the remnants of the old adhesive away, the cork conformed perfectly to the slope of the hull even in the sharp bends by the lockers.

It's insulating properties, nonslip, non mold/mildew seemed like a good idea as well as the ease of trimming and laying the tile. That with a nice rubber backed area rug accent has added a warmth, quiet, comfy atmosphere and has held up so far perfectly.

I will dig for some pics and if on my phone will post now. If not will post after I load them.

Again... Just my 2 cents!

Cork tiles sound pretty cool. Just wonder how it would hold up to the claws of my 75 lb Hovawart.
