My son and I would like to rent a sailboat, in a warm location, for March. All charter companies have boats 38' plus, too large for just 2 people. Ideas? I was thinking of FL keys area. 26'-30' with hot/cold pressure water is ideal.

Try Treasure Harbor Charters on Islamorada at treasureharbor.com. We bareboat chartered a Morgan 416 for one week last year during Spring Break. The boats are a little older but are kept in decent condition. The owner is very pleasant and helpful to work with. Islamorada is ideally located to some very nice reefs and suitable for going both up and down the Keys. Bring your own portable chartplotter.

This could be fun; lots of overnight destinations around Tampa Bay, but cold fronts can still come through in March. There are other charter companies as well around Tampa Bay.

Or, for a more distant adventure, try San Diego; fewer cruising venues but enough to last out the week.

Try http://www.swfyachts.com. The Charlotte Harbor area of SW Florida has great cruising grounds. Although only about 125 miles south of where I am in Tarpon Springs, much more tropical. Lots of places to gunkhole, restaurants, resorts with marinas, etc. Protected, however shallow in places. Short sail out to the gulf. A twenty-four hour sail to Key West. As KG wrote, cold fronts do come through in March which can make for some great sailing as long as you aren't trying to battle your way north in the open gulf. Good luck.

Yeah, sailing in and around Pine Island Sound near CH is also very nice.

Thank you for great responses! I'm checking into all of them. I know it would be nice to find an area with many islands, and not too much traffic. Warm water would be a bonus. We plan to leave and remain on the water/at anchor 4 nights. budget of $300/night

In search of my next boat Palm Harbor, FL
I have used both of these out of St Petersburg, sailingflorida.com and flagshipsailing.com. Sailingflorida.com has newer boats, starting at 28' and will charter for a week or more. Flagshipsailing, are older boats, mostly under 28', and only for day sails.
