Yup. If the temperature is warmer it works better. Sometimes it takes a couple of applications.

Does oven cleaner work on paint
easy off oven cleaner will help remove most types of paint... but some of the special epoxy or polymer paints it wont do anything for it, and its safe on fiberglass...

The Hailing Port is normally the usual location of the vessel. However, in reality as long as what is on the vessel matches what is on the documentation it really does not matter much.
the hailing port can be either your home town or the town where the boat is moored... or anyplace else you would like to see named on the vessel. there are probably as many who use their home town as their are that use the name of the town the boat is moored in.... either way, it wont match if you move or moor someplace else, but it will still be legal.

We used Easy Off Oven cleaner. It left a haze on the glass on the stern.

If you send me $50.00 I can have it properly done for you. Will even send you the empty champagne bottle.

We will be changing our boat name and adding the hailing port in a few weeks. As a licensed vessel, the only crucial identification on the boat is the alpha-numeric designation on the bow.

However, I'm wondering whether the hailing port should be the location of the marina or the location of our home. I'd appreciate any guidance.

Thanks.
If you are simply registering the boat with Maryland, you don't need to place a hailing port. That is a requirement of USCG Documentation. Documented boats don't get bow numbers.

RE naming a vessel

when I bought my 25 year old boat there was no name or hailing port anywhere on It I named the boat. That was 13 years ago and to this day I do not know if the boat was ever named prior to my owning it

What is the minimum needed to do when renaming your boat to continue with good luck . We all know you cannot remove everything with the old boat name on it
The best way to continue with good luck is to make sure the maintenance is complete and that the crew is sober and fit.

Have the renaming party if you want - but it is just superstition in my opinion...

I tried Easy Off on my 1984. I'm not sure what kind of paint they used but even with a plastic scraper it was a bear and not very effective. Very little came off. I then tried a wet sand and the gelcoat was much thinner than I thought. I'm going to have to have a body person look at it and probably respray the transom.

Anchorclanker, As I recall the translations are a bit vague some say, " you shall have no other gods before me". There is even a movie titled,"Children of a lesser god" . And then there is Mother Nature. ;)

I need to say I did not mean any disrespect towards anyone's beliefs. I posted that tongue in cheek.

I am a card carrying Injun. I think some traditions need to be preserved, around the sacred square and circle, and nautical traditions as well. I really do not see traditions running counter to religious beliefs.

Back to the hailing port briefly..you can walk aound any marina and see hailing ports miles away from any serious water..
