Today while attempting to replace the traveler lines I snapped the bolts on the traveler car. This is the original garhauer cabintop traveler. I attempted to remove the end caps but they won't budge. Any ideas on loosening up the end caps. I've wd-40'd till the cows came home. No help!!! Thanks

Arched traveler end stops

If you have the traditional traveler with the arched rail & the rubber end stops, they are held in place by a chromed pin (from the top). use a pair of needlenose pliers to pull the pin out. It should come out easy as there aren't any threads to freeze up. Mine came out easily.

watch out for the ball bearings!

I had to remove my traveler on my '88 to fix those same bolts. I have the flat traveler, and all I needed to do was unscrew two end caps...that part was easy. The hard part came when i took the traveler off the track and all the ball bearings fell off! Luckily I was kind'a expecting something to fall off and I caught them in a paper bag. Check the balls for flat spots, you may want to replace some of them. My local chandlery gave me a great tip for putting the traveler back on the track...use Edge shaving cream to hold the balss in place and wash it out later with lots of fresh water. Good luck.
