Removing old name

What would be the best method of removing the old name? It is painted on both sides of the hull and the transom. Help greatly appreciated.

This works and is the "stock" answer... EZ-Off Oven Cleaner. Wear gloves.

brother for what its worth its a very old sailors myth or belief that if you change the name of a boat it will bring bad luck. you may think about adding to the name such as -----nivana------ to-------our nivana----- for what do you believe?

Before you act on the name removal, call a sign shop and ask them what they use.That way you are less apt to wind up with a mess or worse---damage! good luck Gary
