Removal of water cooled exhaust manifold

As I am relatively isolated from obtaining genuine Universal conversion parts I have just modified the exhaust manifold on my 1979 Cat 30 due to corrosion that has completely eaten away the unit. The product used was 316 stainless tubing extractors that feed directly into the exhaust system where water is injected to cool the unit in a similar manner to the original Universal equipment. The fact that this manifold is not water cooled has no effect on performance or running temperature.

What?

I have read your article. Dose this mean that you have did away with your raw water sea pump? Did you increase the fresh water side resevour? It just seems I may have read this wrong... Brad.

Manifold Modifications

Brad. My Kabota engine is salt water cooled and had performed quite well for 20 years. There is an inlet on the port side that supplies sea water to the original water pump which in turn delivers water to the engine then to the water cooled exhaust manifold. Due to corrosion a water leak developed in the manifold I needed to replace the unit, couldn't find a supplier in Australia decided to replace water cooled unit with s/s extractors, air cooled. Very cheap with no adverse effects.
