I am replacing a cracked Aqua-Lift muffler on an 85 Catalina 30 with a new unit from the Catalina factory. The question is whether it is possible to remove and replace the Aqua-Lift muffler without taking the entire kitchen cabinet assembly off the engine. Has anyone had the experience of replacing the Aqua-lift muffler on a Cat 30 and were you able to do it by snaking the unit in and out without having to take the cabinet apart?

A sounding yes!

Dave, I took my aqualift out in Oct to replace it with a Vetus waterlocks NLP40. The original one came out through the hole in the settee right above the engine. It take a bit of twisting and turning, but it comes out fairly easily. I also had removed my alternator to replace it (this took no more than five minutes), I believe it helped a bit. Hope it it goes as well as it did for me! Ghislain "Emilie-Jolie" C30 4708

Dave Don't know where your crack is, and don't know if you've seen the link to an older discussion on this topic for your C30. Stu

Thanks for the suggestion, Stu. When I bought the boat the muffler was heavily built up with epoxy and other gunk so its impossible to tell exactly where the leak is coming from. The new muffler from Catalina looks great and was actually cheaper than removing and trying to re-glass the old one, but thanks for the suggestion and link to the archives.
