Remote start on Yanmar 2GM20?

Thanks all. Yes, I was trying to jump across the 2 big lugs, and would get a whir out of the starter, but it would not engage. I looked again, and could not identify the other connection...the starter is facing away from my access panel, behind the alternator, and just hard to see. I will have to get an inspection mirror and see if i can see where to connect.

I am hauling out next Saturday, and implored my old boat partner to give me a hand with the haulout, so I have an extra pair of hands to start the engine while I keep the pink pop antifreeze sucking into the system.

But I will figure this out eventually !

Greg, below the big red cable lug on starter is a slightly smaller lug [black wire], which is blocked from view, is the trigger to the start solenoid. Put a +12V to it will activate the solenoid which in turn switch the big red lug +12V to starter motor (wired internally). The grey unshielded wire to left of big lug is ground [I believe][-12V][return].

Thanks Ken, I will try again next week and get a better look at the back of the solenoid.

there are several large wires in the way and the smaller lug is indeed hidden behind one of the large lugs.

you give me hope!

Auto parts stores have them. Trigger switch with two wires terminated in alligator clips of some kind.

thanks @MitchM. That is what I am using...I am not sure what amperage, but it is a trigger switch, exactly as
@Mark Maulden describes below.

I will be back out the boat later this week getting sails down for haulout on Saturday and will have another look.
