Remote Controls for Outboard

I have an older catalina 27 with an outboard motor. It's a pain to reach over that transom and fumble with the motor while steering and rigging sails.Does anyone have experience (or is there such a thing) with a remote ctl. for an outboard ?

Sure is

My old 7.5 had a remote throttle and gear shift. Was not "stock" on the motor. It was made by Teleflex. Still had to reach back for the choke, start button and kill switch. Most outboards are able to be converted.My new 15 was bought as a remote engine, key start, choke etc, now that'll spoil you.

Can't live without it!

I traded up to a 15 hp Honda w/cockpit controls. I can't believe I managed without them all that time. Quite honestly, I couldn't. There was no backing up, no real maneuverability with the old one, etc. Last night I performed my first completely solo docking in my new moorage on which I have to parallel park. I can say with certainty that I could not have done it without the cockpit controls.Contact the maker to see if they have an upgrade kit. Don't expect it to be cheap but it'll be far less money than buying a new motor.LaDonna

Better than sliced bread....

I can't imagine my 27 w/o cockpit controls. With these, you have 95% of the advantages of an IB, without the cost or hassle. My boat has a Morse MV-2 control (about $300 at West), but if I had it to do over again I'd get the new control that uses a winch handle (removable) as the control lever. About the same price ($300) as I recall, but much cleaner and less prone to fouling stuff. Adaptor kit to convert the OB to cable controls is about $30 depending on your OB. Cables (I use 8ft, but that's a little long) are about $30-60 for a pair (throttle
