Refigeration for a Catallina 30

We have been considering refrigerating the existing ice box on our Cat 30 with an DC unit..We would be interested in any hints/cautions regarding extra insulation materials, Systems that have worked, and current draw/duty cycle. Currently we have a bank of 2 golf cart batteries (200 amp-hr) plus a separate starting battery. I expect to have to beef up the charging system.

My C30 has 12v. refrig. and we couldn't get along without it. It is a real small freezer box, but big enough for some burger and steaks. It is a small compressor unit and I have never had any battery problems on some 4 night/5 day trips. Check west mairine they have some systems in there.Sail on, Dean

I did this...

On my 30 I rarely used the oven. I always wanted "cold" drinks and ice. So I opted to remove the stove/oven and purchase a small fridge/freezer combo at a local home improvement store. I also purchased a 2 burner propane stove that mounts nicely to the top of the unit. It fits perfectly in place of the oven and the stove stores under the fridge when not in use. The fridge works great either at the docks with shorepower or at sea using the converter. It draws (six)6 amps when cycling. I love having ice and everthing cold. I also use the ice box for food storage (dry goods). If my fridge acts up, the most it will cost me is another $90 (purchase price).
