A few years ago a friend used Mr. Tony Knowles of the Newport (RI) Marine Surveyors Group. He was pleased with the services rendered.You can "Google" the web for names, or search the e-Yellow Pages. Make sure the surveyor you select has experience with the type of boat you are looking for/at.

Trustworthy surveyor

Gene Barnes of Gloucester has done 2 surveys for us and we were very pleased with both. He travelled to Hingham for the first-he was recommended by a broker and subsequently reported serious flaws in the broker's boat that would have cost us $10,000 in repairs. He later travelled to Falmouth to survey a Catalina 34 which he felt was sound and we now own and love. He educated me throughout the survey process. I was very pleased.
