Hope it doesn't happen in my lifetime. It's my understanding recreational boats are not on the list to control Grey water at least at this point. I wouldn't want to be forced to find space for Grey water tanks on my boat. That would be a major retro fit...

When I bought my boat from NH, it did have to have grey water plumbed to bladder. No grey water discharge.....

I'd like too see that specific regulations that state that requirement.

The regulations state no discharge of black water - not grey water. Black water is water containing sewage - feces or urine. Grey water does not contain either.

Furthermore, these regulations are for specific fresh water inland lakes. It has nothing to do with anywhere else. Now, other inland fresh water lakes may have other restrictions - I live near an inland lake where all forms of motorized propulsion is prohibited - but these types of regulations are not applicable to the boating world in general.

yep, Lake WInnepesaukee: Fresh Water Inland lake. Looks like the inspection program is paused, but regulations still apply. Don't know and didn't ask all the details, I know the head sink and galley sink, Shower were plumbed to a bladder, pump and switches added. A bit of a mess, as not pumping the galley sink immediately resulted in the head sink filling up.

Below is an existing product that claims to do exactly the same thing, although I do not see how it works. Apparently the thing recirculates the cold water in the warm water tubing back through the cold water tubing. I have my doubts on this setup.

It’s just a diverter valve that runs the cold water coming from the hot side back to the tank using a third line. The fixture turns color when it reaches 90f to let you know it’s hot. A expensive way of running the 2 gallons into a jug and dumping it back into your tank.

Many hotels & commercial buildings have a hot water recirculating loop built in to them so when you turn on the hot water there is not a "two (2) minute lag in hot water at the shower or faucet. This is a poor man's hot water recirc system.

You could look into something like this.

Aqualoop | The Only NSF350 Greywater Recycling Solution

That said, Dad always told me if I have to ask the price I probably can't afford it.

Another note. This system filtrates to .02 microns. You do not bad bacteria out with a 20 micron filter. Please remember, potable water is required for showers. Just do a search on safes use of non-potable water.

Be careful and Be safe.

Ceramic filtration, maybe. Might need back flushing, occasionally. If 30 amps eats 10% then there's some power to spare (you're not looking to do this every day, eh?). There must be some unclassified info available through Navy sub design channels.

Sounds like an idea they sorted out on the space station. Or a hot tub loaded in notorious chemicals.
I saw on Pinterest a clear beach ball cut in half and glued onto a tray which filled with sea water. . Floating beside the boat the beach ball slowly evaporated the water off to a condenser on the boat while the tray collected salt. Kinda the same way nature takes the salt out before a coastal storm.

Is potable water required for a shower? I mean we talk about showering with salt water, river water, etc. That is not potable.

This system would effectively be like a bath. The water would start out potable and the only contaminates added would be from your body (AFTER you have rinsed). The water would not be stored in between showers. It would be pumped overboard after every shower.

Not sure I understand this is so different than what currently occurs with every typical boat shower.
If you use fresh water it falls from the shower head to the floor. There it becomes gray water, a soup of fresh water, soap, grime and dead body cells. Then it is "pumped" overboard.

Grey water is just gross.....

Personally, I think all showers should be potable water. There is always a chance of bad stuff in grey water getting into my body and reeking havoc.

In my mind you are also going to need a grey water tank and a non potable water tank. Big picture, I would go with a solar or RO system which could also distill the grey water.

Wow! And you already have a water maker. This has me thinking you must have run out of maintenance and boat projects, and are looking for things to do? ;)
