Recently purchased Catalina 27 as first sailboat. Owner was very meticulous. Well kept, recently rebuilt universal 18hp engine, new head, bottom paint last year, no soft spots. Sails are all in good shape, along with hardware. Wheel drive, lines good. I had deck repainted for cosmetic reasons, teak in top redone for same reason. With all that....boat in really good shape. Any advice on problems I need to watch for.....issues I need to be aware of.....or worthwhile upgrades to further improve the boat? Thanks.

You might want to check the tank for rust spots inside tank. You can inspect through fuel gauge hole and filler hole. My tank was lined in white and there was an 1/8" rust hole that went unnoticed until 5 gallons of gas leaked into the bilge and sole. Also check under the mounting pad where the tank rest in the locker. There have been at least two other postings with this concern.
Also check for deck soft spots near mast base. When I removed mast base the was some wood rot in immediate area. I had to clean out and back fill with resin.
Check the bow eye for looseness and leaks.
Other than that it's a solidly built boat.

I agree with Big Windy. Just use it for awhile and you'll eventually customize it to your personal needs. It took me a year to figure out that some of the rigging, pulleys, etc. were from the pre-furling days and no longer served a function, no one had ever removed them. After a time I was able to eliminate a lot of the clutter on my deck, move the furling line outside the stancions, upgrade electric as you see fit, etc.
If the lower shroud chainplates haven't already been upgraded from the eye bolt design to the u bolt design you might want to consider doing it. The u bolts are considerably stronger than the origional eye bolts and they use a bigger backing plate under the deck to spread the load over a larger area.
