Rebedding a toe rail (Chrysler 26)

Question. I am partially restoring a 78 Chrysler 26. I am at the point of rebedding the toe rails. I wanted to confirm that it is important not to seal the tow rail to the deck since it seems like water flows from between the deck and the toerail and through holes on the bottom of the toe rail. I was just planning on putting new sealant along the joint between the deck and the hull.

Thanks!

My two cents is you want it to be water tight. Consider using butyl tape or Boatlife LifeCaulk as a sealant. You might find these threads helpful.

The important thing is to not allow water intrusion into the deck. It's easy enough to cut drains into the toe rail allowing the water to run over the side. I have also seen gaps in the toe rail on some boats.
